Romans 8
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Spotting @ Penang

Went spotting @ PEN with Wilson and then JJ.
Everyone else though we were crazy- stood under the hot sun for couple of hours just for that few seconds when each fleet flew across. But that was absolutely fun!

Pardon me for the poor pictures ;p Tried my best but I went with my freaking lousy Canon IXUS 500. I want a DSLR! God shall bless me with one, haha!!

Singapore Airshow - a total disgrace to Singapore

*A very long post - a very personal experience based on the few hours that I was there*
So you must have heard how Singapore has been claiming that the Singapore Airshow is the biggest in Asia. I went for it today and get totally pissed like many others I believe. This is such a shame to Singapore. It makes me think that Singapore is not capable of going real big. Pardon me for saying that, but I think it's really such a disgrace. I dont mean to say that Singapore is so bad in each and every sense, but at least, they put up a horrible show today, Feb 23, 2008.

Singapore Airshow, the biggest one in Asia. It's too hot to miss. Damn it. If you're claiming that it's the biggest show in Asia, please expect THAT many people to be attracted to the site. Please expect that much traffic driving towards the site.

I understand that they had to do a lot of security checks to ensure everyone's safety since it's such a big event with visitors frm around the world. But guess what? Many people left with a shit impression of Singapore. An Australian man said that, "They just took our money and sent us into the site properly. But they didnt care how the hell are we getting out of this place. The traffic is horrendous. There is no system at all. No proper planning. What a shame."

I think we dont wanna hear too much like this about Singapore. But it was just really what it told the foreigners after the airshow. The start of the show wasn't too bad. But it ended horribly. Look at the last few pictures.

So this is a post dedicated to Singapore Airshow without pictures any pictures of the air crafts. I had quite a bit of fun watching the show and the crafts, but it was to my utmost dismay when it comes to the logistic part of it.

11.40am - The queue of shuttle buses into the site was ridiculously long
The bus managed to reach the site after 45 minutes drive from the city. We waited for our bus' turn to be inspected for at least 30 minutes. It's because the police were checking each and every vehicle that was coming in. There were at least 8 buses queuing at any given point of time (when I reached there >.<) I have no complain for that but I thought if they could add manpower to speed up the process, this will ease the congestion of traffic for a fair bit.
12.30pm - Long queue at the drop off point - no complain about this
Even though the queue was really long and fat, but I think it's fine. Cause it's organized in some ways and queue was moving bit by bit at least.
This is just maybe 1/5 of the snake-shaped queue ;p

12.40pm - Many of us still outside decided to watch the flying show before the main entrance of the site. Instead of continuing to queue to get into the Registration Hall, we stayed outside to watch all the crafts flying across the skies for a bit.

The queue of the cabs in the site is so long and they're not moving. Heard that many cab drivers refused to send people into the Singapore Airshow site. Think that's a wise choice.
1.10pm - No one was checking the Entrance Ticket at the main entrance
I decided to get into the exhibition site to check it out. So I continued to join the queue and finally got into the exhibition hall after long waitings. And there were many security gates, like those that we'll see at the airport.
This is the longest snake I've ever queued in. Again, no complain about that cause this is the hottest event in town. We expect a lot of people.
I didnt see anyone checking the tickets though. Perhaps there was someone, but I didnt notice that.
The crowd still watching from out there.
1.50pm - The stupid long queue to get out of the site
So I got into the exhibition site right, and had fun checking out some crafts. And when I wanted to leave, I realized that there was a massive traffic of people towards the exit. It took us I-dont-know-how-long to get to the exit. Everyone's squeezing in the queue to get out. And we didnt understand why was it so hard to get out.
After we finally got to the exit point, we saw how we were supposed to cross over the chain tied on the few tiny pillars. It's just like the pillars and the chain in this picture. That's part of the crowd ahead of me trying to get to the exit point.
This is totally ridiculous. Everyone had to leap over and some took slightly longer, cause some were kids and some were old folks. Not everyone's fit for this sorta exercise.

2.30pm - The worst ever part of the renowned Singapore Airshow
Everyone was trying to get onto the free shuttle to Pasir Ris MRT station. And that's how everyone's boarding the bus. The people were standing on the road which was meant for other shuttle buses to pass through. Just imagine how dangerous was that. Everyone just tried to get onto the bus - there was no traffic control at all at first. The police did come after many shuttle buses had come and by. It did help a bit, but it wasnt well done.

3.2opm - Private shuttle bus service operated by Tour East sucks to the max
So let me tell you what's stated on the SGD 5 (per way) ticket

Please note:
Valid ONLY for date/time/pick up & drop off point on ticket
>> There was nothing stated on the ticket. Fact is, just get the ticket and board any bus that you can get yourself onto.
>> No date/time/pickup & drop off point stated AT ALL as per mentioned
>> No control over the sales of the ticket, they were JUST selling the ticket to everyone
Please be punctual as shuttle service will leave promptly as per schedule and Tour East Singapore shall not be liable for any missed transfer
>> Crap. Tell me about being punctual.
>> Explanation given by the lady in charge was that, "The bus has already come, but it's stuck at the security check queue." She told us that since 30 minutes before the bus actually came
Tour East Singapore reserved the right to change, cancel or withdraw the Shuttle Service without prior notice.

Terms & Conditions
Seats are based on first-come-first-serve basis
>> But are you going to sell 100 tickets when you can only serve 40 people?
>> Can you please stop busy selling tickets when you can't even solve the issues with the many already-existed clients with valid tickets.
>> There was no proper queue at all, no one was in control of the situation.
Many other crap terms & conditions

Hello Tour East-
1. There was no queue at all. When you say first-come-first-served basis, do you mean those first 40 people who ran towards the bus?
2. There was already such a mess with the current queue. The staff werent even solving the problems. Instead, they kept directing people to join the queue WHEN THERE WASN'T ANY QUEUE. And they kept selling tickets to get more people into shit trouble of waiting for the bus.
3. There were many people who boarded the bus using the ticket which was already used before. And no one seemed to care too. What's going on here?

The queue hurried towards the bus once the bus was there. It's again really dangerous, and there were many kids, pregnant women, old folks, disableds, etc.
After waiting for 1 hour, I finally managed to get onto a shuttle bus. And look at the queue in front of our bus. The police had to help clear the way for the bus to move.

Toppled crane @ NUS construction site

******
Edit:
Just read from Straits Times - apparently it's the toppled crane. 2 workers got crushed.
******
I was alighting at Biz bus stop and saw a crowd watching towards the construction site of the new NUS Alumni House.

I dont know what exactly had happened but I think that somehow some loader banged into some pillar or something. Anyways there's this long pillar that hit every other thing as it fell. Thank goodness the Biz bus stop didnt fall apart.

I heard an uncle saying that that accident happened right after all the students boarded the bus. Many more would have been injured if the bus was late by couple of minutes.
Pray that there aint be too much of injuries at the construction site. Bless them.

It's right behind the Biz bus stop.

Splitting the tree into half.

I think this is where something went wrong.

OpenGLing. Mazing.

I was working on my CS3241 (Computer Graphics) lab in one of the project rooms with CS last night.

We have to create a maze. Yes, a freaking maze.
As we're cracking our brains and discussing how to get the floor and walls drawn, there's this Chinese guy sitting across the table who spoke up of all sudden.

".... rotate... you have to... normalize.... up vector.... then gluLookAt... and then.... so...."
He told us a fair bit of stuff which we didnt quite understand.

We went on saying, "Hehe we haven't learn that much to understand all of those yet."

He was really nice cause he helped have a look at our lab sheet and the codes. So he spent some time explaining some stuff to us. With his help, we both managed to get our first step done. Thanks so much Mr Random China Guy! XD

Well, this may not be the most impressive piece of work on earth. But hey, it means a lot to someone dumb like me! Hahah!

I fell down

while walking down the stairs towards the Arts bus stop.

I went, "Ohhh..."
I fell with my head heading onto the floor and I used my palms to hold on the closest step that I could reach.
I didnt remember seeing anything.

But there's one thing that I remembered.
When I looked up, there's this girl hurried towards me asking, "Are you okay?"
Haha! For one moment I thought she's an angel cause she's wearing white blouse!
That's really so embarassing!

I think I should learn to walk properly. I keep falling. I keep getting my ankle sprained. Are penguins meant to be falling all over?

This reminds me of Cat though. If she was here, she would say, "I think you should sit on Dolphin's back and stop walking on ground anymore!" Haha!
Thanks CS, KMT and JJ though. Haha! I'm alive still!

Alright I have to continue getting my head stuck in the OpenGL myths. Bless me with ultrawisdom Lord! XD

Chinese New Year break

Ha! Backlogs!
These are some photos from the Chinese New Year break that's just over. Frankly, I wasnt anticipating for the break at all because it was such a short one. We would have more work to catch up with after the break. Just too much assignments and projects.

Thank God cause He still granted me a blissful CNY break despite. Spent most of my time catching up with families. Was in my gran's place for 3 days out of my 4.5 days break. Hehe. It's still as fun to fool around with my little cousins.

So I met up with many friends as well during the break. Had a reunion with the prefect gang, and then one with my ex-classmates, the U6P1ians. Went to see Ming Ming and Shu Shen with Shye Nee as well! Ah and 4 kids from KMT 07 - Hei-non-stop, Fishball and Bowl Bamboo. Haha. And also managed to catch up with my god-mummy.

Having a big famiy and many friends may take away my time from spending time doing some work at home. But I think it is absolutely worthy. The happiness and joy that come from within will be irreplacable.

Wonderful people - friends and family.
My younger brother and uncle are always like to play chess. Both of them have the brains. Think my brother is learning a fair bit from uncle ;p

That's my mom! Haha. We brought some cousins to watch Chang Jiang 7. It's not the best movie we've watched, but we had so much fun. Cause for some of the kids, it's their first visit to the cinema. Haha ;) So they're quite fascinated. And we're advertising for McDonalds for free! Ha!

Had a reunion with some friends from back home and also the prefects. This is way too cool! Some of them, I hadnt met for like 2 years! Just felt so good to catch up.

The girls rule as always :D

Tithing, a fresh revelation

Today's service is as awesome as ever. Got such a fresh revelation about tithing. I am tithing my 1/10 of my brain to God too, cause I know He's gonna make the 9/10 holy as well! Yay!
And I think I should tithe 1/10 of my time for Him, so that He'll bless the 9/10. So if I spend 2.4 hours a day with Him, He will bless the rest of the time in my day - and I will be more productive than ever! Yay! Yay!

Keep our expectations high - and God's gonna let His blessings rain down on us!

Romans 11:16
For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

PS: Just heard that one of our friends is suffering from kidney failure and she has to be dismissed from university. She'll be undergoing the dialysis soon.

As I continue to thank God for blessing me with ultrahealth, I pray that my friends will be kept from those diseases too. Jesus has borne all our curses and every single disease - so they do not have the right to be in our bodies.

Randy Pausch, so inspiring

I have just watched this video - The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, a 46-year-old professor at Carnegia Mellon University, and the co-founder of the Entertainment Technology Center which bridges computer science and fine arts.

Watch it @ http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5700431505846055184 !

The lecture was 1 hour and 44 minutes long, but definitely worth the time to watch it. I was so moved to see him face the remaining days with such positive attitude. He's such a humorous guy, cracking many jokes throughout the lecture. He said he's gonna have fun till the last day. It was truly inspiring. I shed some tears.

He shared his childhood dreams, and how he went on achieving them. Finally, he shared the lessons learnt throughout. This is a lecture for his 3 children.

Among the things that I've learnt, I particularly like the brick walls stories.
Quoted from him, brick walls are there for a reason. Brick walls arent there to keep us out. They show us how badly we want something.

Watching Randy really reminds me a lot of my dad. Though my dad probably didnt know he was facing death, none of us knew really, he had been an assertive Parkinson patient. If my dad had to give a last lecture, he would have a fair bit to share too. He's left a legacy that I always embrace.

For Randy and family-
I thank God for your life that has touched many lives, more than you probably could have imagined.
